This course supports participants with the skills and knowledge required to use and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protective equipment (RPE), within the workplace. It also supports participants with working with products and materials containing crystalline silica (CS) and respirable crystalline silica (RCS).

The course includes the planning considerations prior to using RPE; performing fit checking; complying with use requirements and following cleaning, maintenance and storage of RPE. It also includes preparing for and identifying tools and equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protective equipment (RPE) to be used while working with products and materials containing CS. It also covers the review of working with products and materials containing CS.

The unit is suitable for those working with products and materials containing crystalline silica (CS) and using RPE to mitigate exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS). Worksites may be in factory or workshop settings or commercial and residential settings, and/or construction sites, including demolition sites.

Upon successful completion of this training, you will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment for the following units of competency:

• CPCSIL2001 – Use and maintain respiratory protective equipment
• CPCSIL3001 – Work with products and materials containing crystalline silica
