Driving Operations

K&S Corporation Port Kembla are seeking to attract young people to the transport industry to work as heavy vehicle drivers. Illawarra Youth Employment Strategy Coordinator Stuart McKechnie together with K&S Corporation and Fusion Training Solutions has developed a comprehensive pathway to a long-term career as a driver.
This program is targeted to developing young people under 25 years.

Step 1 – Entry level training.
This is a 12-week, certificate II Driving Operations course consisting of 2 days classroom training and 2 shifts per week work experience on the job. This gives both the participant and the company an indication of the persons suitability and aptitude for the job. During this time the student will be trained and assessed to drive a Heavy Rigid truck and be eligible to attain a HR licence.

Step 2 – Paid Traineeship 12 months
A full time position as a trainee driver. Trainees will undertake certificate III Driving Operations on the job and by the end of the 12 months will be trained and assessed to drive a Heavy Combination class truck and be eligible to attain the HC licence.

Step 3 – Employment as a driver
With a HC licence the driver will continue to participate in K&S Corporations inhouse training and be trained and assessed to obtain a Multi Combination licence. A competent driver with an MC class licence has the potential to earn a six-figure salary.
